Rodeo

I have always wanted to see a live rodeo and tonight did not disappoint. We arrived at the rodeo early so managed to get some great seats centre grandstand.

The rodeo kicked off with everyone standing for the national anthem while removing their hats. Then we were straight into the action. The first event was bareback riding. Which was probably the most spectacular event of the night and the only event bar one I managed to shoot some quick videos of.

Sian managed to snap some fantastic photos so well worth taking a look at her blog.

Other events of the night included, roping, speed runs, team roping, saddled riding and bull riding,

One of the most interesting events of the night was when they invited all the small children into the arena and had them chase a calf with a ribbon attached to its tail. I tried to shoot a video of this but unfortunately pressed the wrong button doh!

All in all it was an incredibly entertaining show and one of the true highlights of the yellowstone visit.

Yellowstone Day 2

The plan for today was to see Old Faithful erupt and go row a boat across yellowstone lake.

We started the day by arriving early and heading straight to Old Faithful, even though we had arrived early we had nearly a 2 hour wait till it erupted. So we headed for a hot chocolate and a muffin. As we walked back to Old Faithful we noticed a lot of people had already started waiting for the eruption.

And then we heard someone mention what time it was, we had made a total rookie mistake and we were using the wrong time zone! So rather than the 2 hour wait we thought we had it was a rather short 30 mins. This also explains why yesterday we missed the eruption by such a large window!

After Old Faithful we visited a few other basins and shot a few pics of the wildlife before heading back to West Yellowstone. While walking around trying to find a restaurant to eat we found some flyers for a rodeo which we will hopefully attend tomorrow. I will report back if we manage to get tickets!

Yellowstone Day 1

Today was our first day in Yellowstone national park and what a stark difference to Yosemite. The landscape is totally different and thankfully the hikes are no where near as long!

We started the day by trying to see Old Faithful this didn’t pan out so we ended up driving around to see some of the other geysers. We spent most of our time in somewhere which I believe was called Biscuit Basin. Which is where the majority of the vids below were shot.

The environment and noises around the geysers seem so alien and I hope the videos do a good job of giving a little insight into what its like.

We are heading back into the park tomorrow to shoot a lot more photographs and vidoes. We took some great panoramas today but they may take a few hours to process I will upload as soon as they are finished.

Panorama

I promised a panorama from the other day and here it is. Excuse the quality as the original is 120Mb so there is a lot of compression here
